BREAKER has reported that former BitTorrent Executive Simon Morris has serious concerns about the upcoming launch of the BitTorrent Token (BTT) on the TRON network. He feels that the network is in no way prepared for the transaction volume needed to make the token work and that it could “melt TRON” if actually deployed on the blockchain.
Morris was the BitTorrent CSO at the time that TRON acquired the company and claims to have spent a considerable amount of time with Justin Sun, founder and CEO of TRON. He claims that either TRON is lying about how BTT will be implemented, or the system simply isn’t going to work.
He does agree that if implemented properly it could speed up BitTorrent’s network by as much as 40% and add a nice revenue stream for the company, but the problem is that he feels the TRON blockchain is not nearly able to handle the transaction capacity needed to make the system work.
Taken from the article:
“It was very clear when I was [at BitTorrent] that there was no way the transaction capacity of Tron would [work]… The transactional capacity we [were] looking at was needing hundreds of transactions a second just to get started. It’s simply not there. You hear all the bullshit out there, oh, this does 10,000 transactions a second. It’s all crap. We were going to melt Tron. Literally destroy it.”
He goes onto say that it is still possible the system could be rolled out and even work, just not on the TRON blockchain as it exists now.
“I suspect that what they’re really going to do is they’ll do it on some central server, they’ll wave their hands and say, ‘Oh, it’s a Lightning Network for Tron,’ or something, and pretend it’s Tron-based, but it’s not really Tron-based.”
Morris is rather harsh on the company and Justin Sun claiming their program is more hype than real technology, citing issues the team has had with plagiarism in the past.
TRON responded to this criticism with a statement to BREAKER which reads as follows:
“Morris appears to have little insight into BitTorrent operational plans since his departure… Actions and execution will prove louder than the words of a disgruntled former employee.”
Ultimately, the proof will come out when BTT is launched and users can decide if the system works and works in the way it was promised. Until then stick with Chepicap for any and all updates!
