Venezuelan Government Took A Trial To Pay Using Bitcoin For Passport Applicants

  • It seems that the Venezuelan government is testing Bitcoin as payment for the issuance of passports and other official paperwork for passport applicants.

It seems that the Venezuelan government is testing Bitcoin as payment for the issuance of passports and other official paperwork for passport applicants. This week, the government temporarily allowed the passport applicants to pay utilizing bitcoin.

It was a short-term offer

However, this option was available on Venezuela’s Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Foreigners, SAIME.  This information was shared by several social media users. A user on Twitter shared the screenshot of the feature published by the Venezuelan administrative website.

Besides this, the user reported that after the introduction of bitcoin payment service. It was seemingly removed from the portal after an hour.

Additionally, some users have reported that the option was never available to the users of Venezuelan. It was only applicable for the foreign users that were applying for their passport externally.

Although, the government of Nicolas Maduro has not given an official statement on this issue. The choice to pay in Bitcoin might be a response to ongoing challenges that Venezuela has encountered in processing cross-border payments.

Venezuelan Government Looking For Adopting Cryptocurrency
This quite difficult for any official state business because of the unilateral monetary approvals. That the US government has enforced against Venezuela.

Due to the hyperinflation that has affected the county’s national currency bolivar, Venezuela has become a popular hotspot for cryptocurrency.

The report says that the highest volume of buyers and sellers on the crypto exchange LocalBitcoins is Venezuelan users. The country’s leading businesses such as Burger King and Church’s Chicken also associated with Dash.

The country’s national banks are also looking to introduce cryptocurrency services. Apart from this, the Maduro’s government recently admitted that Venezuela is working to store Bitcoin and Ethereum as a part of its international reserve.
