Argentina’s main seaport to receive upgrade with blockchain technology

The Argentine government will modernize its main access to ships with blockchain technology, the Port of Buenos Aires. According to a statement made last Friday (16) by the General Port Administration (AGP), an agency linked to the Ministry of Transport, the selection of the company that will carry out the upgrade will take place through an evaluation of the proposal sent by email, as scheduled. in the notice ‘Licitación Pública 08/2021’.

According to AGP, with this tender, the entity advances in the implementation of a new, more modern system, with innovative technology and more benefits for all parties involved. Among them, said the entity, we can highlight the greater efficiency and agility in port processes, mainly through automation and reduction of bureaucracy, contributing to sustainable transport.

On the official website of the Port of Buenos Aires, the organization maintains that “modern logistics depends on electronic business models” and even anticipates the new venture: “Towards a paperless, sustainable and agile port”.

Currently, the administration of the port is carried out by the ‘e-PuertoBUE’ — Electronic Document Interchange system, which covers all maritime interaction in the jurisdiction of the Port of Buenos Aires in harmony with the City Hall and Customs.

“The modernization of e-PuertoBUE will place the Port of Buenos Aires as a pioneer and innovation leader in the region in the use of these disruptive technologies”, says the publication.

“Digital Notary” in blockchain

According to the AGP proposal, the new platform to be developed must be based on secure, standardized and interoperable technological tools, in a way that allows actors in the foreign trade chain to share information effectively and efficiently, as well as cargo traceability proper.

“For this, a modern process platform will be used that will be tokenized in the Blockchain network, which will act as a digital registry, preventing information changes, performing traceability and providing a secure framework, among others”, concludes the note.

In summary, as Coindesk commented, the Blockchain implementation will act as a “digital notary,” preventing information changes while driving traceability methods and providing a secure framework, an intrinsic capability of the blockchain technology that came with Bitcoin.
