Cyprus hospital uses VeChain to track and verify COVID-19 vaccinations

  • The Mediterranean Hospital in Cyprus gave 100 of its doctors and personnel COVID-19 vaccination and recorded their digital certificates on the VeChain based E-HCert app.
  • VeChain recently expanded the app to underpin lab information systems, enabling faster delivery of test results and diagnostics.

A hospital in Cyprus has announced that it has vaccinated 100 of its doctors and personnel and issued them with a digital certificate on the VeChain blockchain. The Mediterranean Hospital has been relying on VeChain for months to record the test results of its patients as well.

Transforming healthcare

In its press release, the hospital revealed that the vaccination had taken place on January 4. It further revealed:

Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus also announces that these 100 people received a digital certificate for their vaccination on their E-HCert App marking another step towards digital transformation of the healthcare industry via VeChainThor Blockchain.

VeChain launched the E-HCert in June last year, as Crypto News Flash reported. It then partnered with the hospital in its efforts to fight against the pandemic. E-HCert was soon adopted by Larnaca International Airport, the largest in Cyprus. The platform works as an electronic test to verify whether a user is a COVID-19 carrier.

In its December 3rd press release, VeChain revealed that its solution had recorded the test results of 8,000 people. These people were able to use it as part of the flight arrival process at the International Airport of Larnaca.

VeChain also revealed that it was launching a new product via the E-HCert platform.

Driven by proven value in a real-world setting, the E-HCert App is now launching its latest iteration; a Digital Lab Test Wallet offering an ecosystem of blockchain-enabled services, bringing medical test results to the hands of patients whilst healthcare authorities maintain the integrity of the data.

The blockchain firm has already partnered with Aretaeio Hospital, yet another top facility in Cyprus. The hospital has integrated the E-HCert App throughout its lab testing services.

The new solution is set to solve a number of challenges within the lab testing sector. They include long waiting periods and the tedious physical delivery of lab results. VeChain stated:

Blockchain technology represents the best opportunity to radically reshape the current paradigm and change the delivery of healthcare, test results, therapeutics, diagnostics as well as advance the process and security of information exchange between parties.

Cyprus vaccination card offers new opportunities for VeChain

Cyprus has continued to fight valiantly against the COVID-19 pandemic which has so far claimed 133 lives. In its latest effort, the Middle Eastern country is to launch a vaccination card for those who receive the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The country has already launched the vaccination portal where citizens can monitor the vaccination process.

With VeChain being on the fro

ntline in the Cyprus COVID-19 efforts, this could present yet another prime opportunity for the blockchain firm. VeChain has already launched V-PASS, a vaccination passport information system. This system is built on the VeChain ToolChain, securing the integrity, immutability and validity of the data.
