Not yet pleased enough to rest on its bays, Cardano keeps improving its network infrastructure by enhancing its native Daedalus wallet. Daedalus Flight is a test wallet where volunteer users can analyze changes from a live environment using read ADA transactions.
“Daedalus Flight is a new ‘pre-release’ version of the Daedalus wallet. Specially created for ADA holders who want to help us test new Daedalus wallet features,” IOHK CEO, Charles Hoskinson said.
Daedalus Wallet Improvements Received Positive Feedback
Hoskinson reached out to the Cardano community, via a tweet, asking users to get Daedalus Flight in order to offer feedback on the performance.
The Daedalus wallet has attracted user criticism because of the length of time it takes to sync with the blockchain. Even the most recent version 2.1, which was released for the Shelley mainnet just three weeks ago, is dreadfully slow in getting to 100 percent synchronization.
IOHK recognizes the issue but says that it is a trait of a full node wallet. Their most recent help article, dated August 2020, states the issue is the user’s Internet speed and machine specs.
“Daedalus is a full node wallet and requires a copy of the Cardano blockchain on your machine to operate. The blockchain is now over 6 GB in size on disk as of August 2019, so if your Internet speed is quite slow, it could take many hours. For most users with broadband connections and a relatively new machine, a full sync should take about one hour,” the post says.
Until now, user feedback on the Daedalus Flight test wallet has mainly been positive. One user said that legacy blocks are quick to sync, but when it comes to Shelley blocks, which are part of the minority, are still slow. However, the overall result is still a cut in sync time from 80 minutes to only 30 minutes.
Cardano is on Track as Planned
In a recent update video, Cardano creator, Charles Hoskinson, talked about the upcoming Daedalus version 2.2 and node 1.9 launches. After the Shelley release, about three weeks back, the feedback provided by the community has pointed to a few performance concerns.
However, Hoskinson mentioned the work he and his team have been doing in order to address these issues: “After talking to QA, DevOps, and the rest of the gang, it looks like there are very significant performance improvements. Some aspects of the software are 100 times faster.”
Continuing on the topic, Hoskinson provided users with a breakdown of the vital areas by saying enhancements have been made to sync speeds, chain validation, revalidation, as well as database accessibility.
In accordance with the feedback provided by users on the Daedalus Flight wallet, Daedalus 2.2 should go some way to perfect the user experience. With that, all eyes are turning to the Goguen (smart contract) level of development. The most recent speculations say that Goguen will be launched at the end of 2020.
