Gaming veteran Atari partners with Ethereum’s L2 solution Polygon

  • Atari is partnering with Polygon to make NFTs and token products available on Polygon’s layer-2 solution for Ethereum.
  • The gaming veteran will explore minting NFTs on Polygon’s solution and launch an NFT miner.

Atari Group, one of the most recognized brands in the gaming industry and global interactive entertainment and multiplatform licensing group is joining forces with Polygon to increase the scalability of its Atari Token (ATRI), Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and token-related products. In a press release available to CNF, Frederic Chesnais, CEO of Atari, said of the new partnership with Polygon:

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Polygon, whose layer 2 solution will allow us to provide our users with the best possible experience when interacting with the Atari Token and our blockchain related products.

As part of the collaboration, Atari will support the integration of Polygon’s layer 2 solution and make the Atari Token (ATRI) available on Polygon’s network, which connects to Ethereum via the “Polygon Bridge.” The gaming veteran hopes the partnership will address the problem of the Ethereum blockchain’s current high fees and slow confirmation times.

To do so, Atari will explore minting NFTs via Polygon’s layer 2 scaling solution and launch an NFT mint that will allow Atari token holders to issue NFTs that can be traded and later sold on the NFT marketplace OpenSea. Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder and COO of Polygon said:

We believe that the future of consumer-friendly blockchain products, including NFTs, lies on layer 2. We’re delighted to partner with Atari to explore ways to add utility to its entertainment ecosystem and develop ways of capturing the full value of Atari Token and supplementary products, operating on Polygon’s scalable network.

Polygon becomes L2 aggregator for Ethereum

As CNF reported, Polygon recently implemented Chainlink’s Verifiable Random Function (VRF), which will be a “game changer” for blockchain-based games when combined with its L2 solution. The function enables the creation of in-game item drops and randomly generated NFTs, among other things.

Also, just in early February, Matic Network announced its rebranding to Polygon to emphasize its focus on a new “multi-chain system” architecture that will function similarly to Polkadot. To this end, Polygon is providing a modular SDK that supports multiple layer 2 solutions such as Optimistic Rollups, zkRollups and Validium, allowing projects to choose their preferred solution.
